Interactive comment on “Organic matter dynamics and stable isotopes for tracing sources of suspended sediment” by Y. Schindler Wildhaber

چکیده

The reported study investigated spatio-temporal variations in the concentrations and stable isotope ratios of C and N in both suspended and infiltrated sediment and traced potential sources of sediment using sediment stable isotope and C/N ratios in the River Enziwigger watershed in Switzerland during a brown trout spawning season. Although similar approaches have been used in many other watersheds, the results on isotope tracers are unique because they were linked to hydrologic conditions to examine effects of rainfall and snowmelt on organic mater export from various sources. In addition, the mixing model tool (IsoSource) was very successfully used and the approach of showing potential source distribution rather than single values could attract a lot of attention among ‘isotope trackers’. I would therefore

Interactive comment on “Organic matter dynamics and stable isotopes for tracing sources of suspended sediment” by Y. Schindler Wildhaber

The paper by Schindler Wildhaber et al. uses stable isotopes and other measures of organic components to determine sources of suspended sediment in a small watershed. The questions are of interest, the background laid out and the literature well represented and integrated. The use of the un-mixing model of Phillips and Gregg is not new for characterizing stream suspended sediment, but is a usef...

The contribution of different food sources to the diet of Parasesarma persicum Naderloo and Schubart 2010 in the mangrove ecosystem of Hara Biosphere Reserve; a stable isotope approach

The current study aimed to determine the isotopic composition of different food sources and their contribution to the diet of Parasesarma persicum inhibiting a mangrove ecosystem in the Persian Gulf. The potential food sources, i.e., Avicennia marina green and yellow leaves, Particulate Organic Matter (POM), Microphytobenthos (MPB), and Sediment Organic Matter (SOM) were collected for stable is...

Interactive comment on “Contribution of dissolved organic matter to submicron water-soluble organic aerosols in the marine boundary layer over the eastern equatorial Pacific” by Y. Miyazaki et al

This paper is an essential contribution to marine aerosol research field as it reports on the state-of-the-art aerosol measurements in the under-researched oceanic region and I am looking forward to it being published. Ship-born campaigns are absolutely critical in areas where research infrastructures simply do not exist or hardly accessible and are superior to short-lasting airborne measuremen...
